Background This was 2004’s Charity Gig, in aid of DreamFlight as well as continuing to help pay for the building extension and further disabled facilities in Arborfield’s Village Hall. Eleven live bands played (in rapid succession!) from Noon till very late on Arborfield recreation ground, behind The Bull public house (in Arborfield, near Reading, Berkshire,UK). Rock On The Rec 2004 is being organized to raise further funding for improved facilities in the local village hall. Though the extension is built, it still needs to be paid for and yet more facilities are needed...




Thanks to previous years’ efforts, there are now disabled access and toilet facilities, a doctor’s surgery and waiting room as well as a parish office open to the general public. Previously, a visiting doctor had to operate out of a tiny room next to the stage in the village hall, not much bigger than a broom cupboard. Thanks to the extension, the doctor can be present 5 days a week and has much improved facilities including a proper sink and waiting room.


	No, that’s not subsidence...

The village hall management committee has raised more than £30,000 over the last four years plus further developer funding money from the Ministry of Defense.


	The Village Hall is owned by every resident of Arborfield, relying on

dedicated volunteers, charity funding and rental fees for its upkeep. “Most of the local tradesmen have worked on it over the years at cost or for no fee. It is very well used by the villagers for both practical and fun purposes. Helen Reed-McGregor, the main organizer of Rock On The Rec, is a key member of Arborfield’s Village Hall Management Committee. She explained “It really is a village hall in the true sense of the word because everyone in the village uses it.”.

Seventy years ago, residents purchased a brick each, while local architects and builders turned it into a reality. From the beginning, the Hall’s design allowed for an extension to be added at a future date. Seventy years on, it at last looks like it’s going to happen.


	Regular events include Band Practice, WI, Over 60’s, Gardening Club, Doctor’s Surgery, Brownies, Karate, Charity Jumble Sales, Public Meetings, Voting, Line Dancing, Ballroom Dancing, Slimming World, Dog Training classes, Health & Nutrition classes, Theme nNghts, Weddings, Birthday Parties, Private Functions, Anniversaries, Youth Activities, Annual Pantomime
